Jadon read yesterday on his own, because he wanted to. So far his reading has been a product of me sitting there with him in school, forcing him to read the words of his McGuffey reader. He loves reading, as long as someone else is doing it, i.e. reading to him. Yesterday was different. I was in the bath and I heard Jadon talking, not unusual, he talks a lot to himself when he plays. Then, I noticed that it sounded kind of strange, like he wasn't sure he should be saying what he was saying. Then, I actually heard what he was saying and he was talking about dinosaur facts. I realized then, he was reading. He was sitting at the table reading one of his books because he wanted to. I felt the weight of the world lift off my shoulders. I know that it sounds strange but it was at that moment I knew his dyslexia and slowness in learning to read was nearing an end. Sure, he will still struggle with dyslexia but he obviously felt comfortable enough now to want to read on his own. I was and am so proud of him. Hearing that yesterday was music to my ears.
As you all know, Jadon says whatever is going on in his mind. I love it about him because I rarely have to try to figure out why he cut something to shreds, ripped something up, wrote all over something, or is just plain petulant. He tells me, usually. He also will say some pretty funny stuff because he just says what's on his mind and he just doesn't see the world the way you think he would. The other day we were at a Chinese restaurant (side note: Chinese is one of Brian's favorite foods + I am hopeless at making it = once a month or so you find us at Mandarin House or Bamboo Garden) So, we were at Mandarin House, we had enjoyed a nice meal and were leaving the restaurant. They, of course, have a statue of Buddah by the front door. The statue catches Jadon's eye and he walks over to it, pats it's enormous belly and says, "Hey Buddy, looks like you need to take a break from the sugar" Inside Brian and I are cracking up. Jadon pats the belly one more time and walks out the door. Oblivious to how hilarious that just was.

I have tears in my eyes and goosebumps on my arms regarding Jadon reading. I felt such a burden to pray for him this morning, specifically about him reading and overcoming his dyslexia. Then to read your blog and to see the Lord answered my prayer before I even prayed it....AWESOME! God is so good!!!!
ReplyDeleteOh, and Jadon patting the Buddah belly telling him to lay off the sugar is simply HILARIOUS!!!!
Love ya!

That is just so awesome that God put the burden of that prayer on your heart. I am so glad you abeyed Him and prayed for little Jadon. I am learning more and more just how HUGE prayer is in the life of a believer. I think I shared with the story of Mike Hughes and us praying for Brian after we were certain his job interview was over. Mike said it didn't matter when we prayed, God was outside of time. I always knew God was outside of time but to put that fact with praying for any situation no matter the time, blew my mind. So, your prayer may have been answered when you prayed it, even though the the event had already passed. Anyway, yes, GOD IS SO GOOD, HE IS ALL THE TIME GOOD! I love Him so much!
